ABOUT – Kabir Rachure
Kabir Rachure is India’s foremost and most celebrated ultra cyclist today. In addition to being an
athlete par excellence, he is a practicing advocate of the Mumbai high court and hails from
Udgir, a village located in East Maharashtra. His aim is to bring India on the global map of
ultracycling by constantly raising the bar for himself and also training the next generation of
world-class ultra athletes.
Kabir was always a fitness buff and who spent hours in the gym and hence maintained an
impeccable physique. Later he was introduced to the world of cycling and mainly randonneuring
(or long distance, unsupported endurance cycling). Observing the athletic prowess of Mumbai
based athlete and actor Milind Soman was one of the reasons he was inspired to take up long
distance cycling. As a part of this process he participated in many BRMs (or Brevet de
Randonneurs Mondiaux) which basically translates as ‘Brevets of the randonneurs of the world.’
The brevet refers to the certificate which would be stamped along the way at checkpoints. It was
at the famous Deccan Cliffhanger ultra cycling race by Inspire India that Kabir got his first taste
for the supported format of ultra racing. He has not looked back ever since. His first experience
where he finished outside the RAAM (Race Across America) qualifying time was the only time
Kabir has not been on the podium (among the top three finishers) of the races he eventually
participated in. This shows his immaculate caliber, commitment to racing and undying spirit.
Kabir is a three-time RAAM finisher. This is no small feat. Raam is a 5000 kilometer cycling race
that spans from the West to the East of America. He is currently the only Asian to finish on the
podium (not once, but twice) of this mammoth race.
To honour his commitment of giving back, he started ‘Train With Kabir’. This is where he trains
budding athletes to meet their goals and train for races, marathons and ultra events (of both
cycling and running). True to his personality he believes in the motto ‘Train Smart & Hard’. Click
